Payment Methods (How Customers Pay)
Overview
Payment Methods are the ways a business accepts money at checkout — Cash and Card come by default, and custom methods can be added (bank transfer, payment links, store credit, and so on).
Where to find it
Settings → Finance → Payment Methods.
Adding a custom payment method
Payment Methods → Add Payment Method.
Give it a name and pick an icon (Share, Link, Cash, Card, or Gift) so staff can recognize it at a glance — the Gift icon is reserved for methods meant to represent gift-card-style redemption.
Save — it now appears as a selectable option at checkout.
Deactivating or deleting a method
Deactivate hides a method from checkout without losing its history — useful for pausing it temporarily. Confirmation is required, since it stops being selectable immediately.
Delete removes it permanently.
The last remaining active payment method can never be deactivated or deleted — checkout must always have at least one option available.
Business rules
Only active payment methods appear at checkout.
A method's name can be edited later without breaking historical sales — each has a fixed internal identifier behind the scenes.
Each staff member can be restricted to a subset of payment methods they're allowed to accept (set in Staff settings); only those show up for them at checkout.
Every new business starts with Cash, Credit Card, Customer Balance, and Points switched on by default, plus Payment Link and Gift Card, which exist but start switched off until turned on.
Payment Link only becomes usable once a supported online payment gateway has been connected for the business/region; until then it stays listed but can't be selected.
Gift Card and Points aren't just labels — they're wired into the balance-redemption logic used at Checkout and in Gift Cards. Renaming them is fine; deleting or recreating them can affect how those redemptions are recognized.
Notes & limitations
These are the business's own accepted methods and are separate from the WAJ subscription the business itself pays for.
